 Placement Testing & Orientation

 Placement testing is designed to assess writing, reading and math skills.  The results of these tests are used to assist students and counselors in the selection of college level courses.  The orientation for new students will

 be presented along with the sections of the assessment test you need for course placement.

 WHC Coalinga requires students to take all FOUR tests in order to be placed in the appropriate levels of English  and Math.  Students may retest one time only, any or all sections of the placement exam after two  weeks have lapsed since taking the exam.

If you are coming from out of the area, please call first to make sure the testing date is still available or you may take the placement test at the community college closest to you and fax your scores to a counselor.  Please be on time!  Testing is on a first come-first served basis.

ATB Testing For students who do not have a High School Diploma or GED should take the "Ability to Benefit Test" in order to qualify to receive financial aid: Friday September 10 Friday September 24 Friday October 8 Friday October 22 Friday November 12 Friday December 10

  You do not need to bring anything to the testing session.  Pencils and scratch paper will be     provided.

ATB (Ability to Benefit Testing) is available to students who do not have a high school diploma or GED who want financial aid.    You must get a referral form from financial aid for the ATB test.  

     1.  Students without a passing score on any section of the ATB test must retake all three sections of   the test and may                    do so after a two week waiting period. 

     2. Students not passing the ATB canstill qualify for the BOG Fee Waiver but not the additional Financial Aid grant

     3.  Students not passing the ATB test after the second time must see a counselor for referrals to tutoring.

     4.  If you earn your GED or High School Diploma during the waiting period, you will not need the ATB test.
