Liberal Arts - Area of Emphasis for Arts and Humanities AA Degree

The Arts and Humanities area of emphasis is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to understand emotional and intellectual responses, increase awareness and appreciation of the traditional humanistic disciplines such as art, drama, literature, music, philosophy, and foreign language in addition to introducing and understanding of the interrelationships between these disciplines. This area of emphasis prepares students for baccalaureate majors including but not limited to: art, foreign language, history, philosophy and performing arts.

Program student learning outcomes:

  1. Students will be able to evaluate the soundness of an argument.
  2. Students will be able to compare and contrast two or more philosophical or religious views.
  3. Students will be able to articulate several broad historical, religious, artistic, literary and philosophical movements within Eastern and Western culture.

Students must fulfill the following requirements to qualify for an Associate Degree:

  • Complete the Local General Education, CSU General Education (CSUGE) or Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) requirements,
  • Complete a minimum of 18 additional units from the major list below,
  • Complete electives to reach a total of 60-degree applicable units,
  • Earn a grade of C or better in each major course,
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.00, and
  • Complete the English and math proficiency requirements with a C or better
