Bridge Out of Poverty conference bringing top seller Ruby Payne to Kings County

A repeat of last year's Bridges Out of Poverty conference is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18th at Hanford Civic Auditorium at 6 p.m.

It will bring together representatives from education, health care, social services and the workplace to spend an evening with top-selling author Ruby Payne whose aim is to help find creative and practical solutions to the challenges of working across socioeconomic lines to build sustainable communities.

She is co-author of more than a dozen books surrounding issues of poverty in areas of education, social services, the workplace, communities, churches and leadership.

Payne’s publications include Under-Resourced Learners: 8 Strategies to Boost Student Achievement, A Framework for Understanding Poverty and Hidden rules of Class at Work. She is also founder and a CEO of aha! Process, Inc. (formally RFT Publishing). She employs 20 full and part-time staff and has a team of 50 consultant presenters and has published more than 100 books and video products, offering a dozen different seminars.

Payne received her doctorate degree from Loyola, her master’s degree from Western Michigan University and her bachelor’s degree from Goshen College, IN.

The list of sponsoring organizations is long—from several colleges in the area including West Hills College Lemoore and West Hills College Coalinga to Proteus to the Kings County Economic Development Corporation to representatives of family, youth and children’s services agencies as well as health care.

This event is open to the public but seating is limited. Ticket price is $25 and includes Dr. Payne’s book. For tickets and information, contact Penny Wilson (559) 934-2149 or email pennywilson@whccd.edu.
