Ask the Chancellor

What is West Hills planning to do to deal with the May revise of the budget?

We will be a much smaller district if the propositions fail on May 19th. We will continue to do much of the same, freeze on budgets, and personnel. We will attempt to extend our goal of no lay-offs for next fiscal year, but given the state budget and our budget, that may not be possible. If we do move into layoffs, all positions at all levels will be reviewed.

We will have the ability to move forward with our building plans because those dollars are not general fund dollars that come from the state. Our bond dollars come from the local tax base. So it may look counterproductive if we lay off staff and continue to build our facilities, but the reality is that we will be able to complete our facilities.

Finally, there is no end in sight for this financial crisis. It appears that we will face another significant fiscal problem in the 09-10 and 10-11 budget years.

We will continue to do more with less, and do it well thanks to a great staff that puts students first!
