West Hills offers one associates degree at this time. As well as receiving accredited general education, the students will be rigorously trained and tested in their respective fields.
The Hotel Restaurant & Casino Management Associate Degree will prepare the student for operations in a restaurant and hotel environment. Students will be able to accurately utilize written and verbal communication in a professional atmosphere. They will be versed in all aspects of Restaurant service and production. The student will be able to manage inventory, equipment, personnel, scheduling, hiring and firing. The student will be well versed in Culinary Arts as well as Hospitality in the modern marketplace. Hotel Management will prepare the student to communicate professionally with employees and guests as well as be prepared in the fundamentals of reservations, guest services and hotel departments including: Design and Development; Front Office; Housekeeping; Maintenance; Conference and Events; Tourism, Conventions, Marketing and Sales. Students will be able to analyze markets and calculate competitive and profitable average daily rates to be relevant in the modern marketplace.
West Hills College Lemoore offers six certifications at this time.
The Mixology Certificate signifies that the student can safely create the most common drinks, as well as several specialty drinks in a professional manner and environment.
The Bartender and Beverage Management Certification signifies that the student can train, organize and operate a bar, serve drinks and create food pairings for events and menus, as well as keep detailed accounting of inventory and sales.
The Dining Room Service and Management Certification signifies that the student can operate and manage a formal dining room. The student is trained in the latest service and management techniques as well as training methods, and has been familiarized with menu presentation and promotion.
The Pastry and Baking Certification signifies that the student can create breads, pastries, cookies, cakes, pies, tarts and other delicate baked goods in an industrial kitchen for service in restaurants, catering, and vending delivery systems.
The Culinary and Baking Arts Certification signifies that the student understands the fundamentals of classic cuisine in a wide spectrum of preparation methods. Students can easily scale recipes and adapt preparation methods to various industrial kitchen environments.
The Chef Apprentice Certification signifies that the student understands the fundamentals of food application in all fields of food production and is versed in menu creation, inventory control and reporting, safety and sanitation, ordering and receiving, scheduling, training, and management of an industrial kitchen.
