HIST 004A is a survey of the development of western culture and civilization from
Ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt to the Age of Discovery. Topics will include (but are

the Medieval World, the Italian and Northern Renaissance, and the Protestant Reformation.

HIST 032 will examine the social, political, and economic experiences of Mexicans
living in the United States beginning with their Pre-Columbian heritage through the

War II, and the Civil Rights Movement. Emphasis will be on how these experiences have
helped to shape the culture of Chicanos in the modern era.
