The Paramedic Program is offered by West Hills College Lemoore (WHCL) Health Careers Department and West Hills Community College District (The District). The WHCL Paramedic Program consists of a minimum 1090 hours of instruction, divided into three distinct semesters: theory/classroom instruction (minimum of 450 hours), clinical internship (minimum of 160 hours), and field internship (minimum of 480 hours). Upon successful completion of the program, the student is eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic examination, which is required for paramedic licensure in the State of California. West Hills College offers the opportunity for the student to continue their studies and obtain an Associate of Science Degree with Paramedic Major.
The primary mission of the West Hills College Lemoore Paramedic Program is to provide a strong educational foundation for paramedic student graduates dedicated to the improvement of the health and welfare of their community they serve in providing the highest quality pre-hospital emergency medical care.
The WHCL Paramedic Program is designed to meet the unit and content requirements in the California Code of Regulations; Title 22. Division 9: Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Services; Chapter 4; Paramedic. Title 22 requires that all paramedic students who begin their education on or after January 1, 2013, and wish to obtain National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) National EMS Certification at the paramedic level, must successfully complete their paramedic education at an accredited program or one that is seeking accreditation sponsored by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
These courses will meet in a cohort format and will prepare the student to be eligible to take the Paramedic National Registry examination administered by the NREMT.
The purpose of the West Hills College Lemoore Associate of Science Degree/Certificate Paramedic Program is to prepare students to become not only eligible to sit for the examination but to be qualified emergency providers of care across the health/illness emergency continuum. The program respects the individuality of students and recognizes that each student has different educational, experiential, cultural, spiritual, economic and social backgrounds and a unique support system. The aim of the curriculum is to provide a positive, innovative learning model that fosters the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills so that the graduate paramedic is equipped to deliver care to a culturally diverse population in a variety of community emergency and health care settings.
*Before submitting an application to ANY Health Careers Program, you must apply for admissions to WHC to obtain a Student ID Number and Student Email Address.
The West Hills College Lemoore Paramedic program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation Standards through the Letter of Review Self StudyReport (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT's Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation. If you have any questions, you can contact:
