Researcher Gregory Hanley, Ph.D, BCBA-D, has identified 13 social skills elementary teachers have indicated as being critical to early school success. These social skills parallel functional skills children are taught by behaviorists to address problem behaviors. Using several of Hanley’s functional social skills, we will explore methods suggested by the CA Teaching Pyramid, to teach friendship skills through visual models, role play and social stories.

Audience will receive information on how to develop expectations for their classroom and resources to promote positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues. They will use daily schedules, and routines to support expectation in their environment by using Positive Descriptive Acknowledgement and sharing resources to support expectations at home.

Master Gardeners
Master Gardeners will demonstrate exciting ways for preschoolers to learn how a beanstalk grows. Teachers will make two hands-on activities to take back to their classrooms. Beyond the gardening component, a demonstration of fun centers to incorporate simple counting and measuring skills, sorting activities, letter recognition, and art from this fantasy book into your curriculum.
