Common Course Numbering (CCN)
About Common Course Numbering
To make it easier for students to transfer credits between colleges, California Community Colleges have implemented a statewide Common Course Numbering (CCN) system, as mandated by AB 1111. This initiative will eventually standardize subject names and course numbers across all California Community Colleges, so that equivalent courses carry the same designation regardless of where they are taken. This alignment simplifies the credit transfer process, helping students to clearly understand which courses will count toward their academic goals.
The Common Course Numbering system is designed to give students more clarity and confidence when planning their education, helping students to transfer to a California State University (CSU), University of California (UC), or other transfer institution. By promoting consistency and strengthening articulation agreements, the system makes navigating California’s Community College network more seamless and student-friendly.
Frequently Asked Questions

Course numbers will be updated over the next two years. Please check this page for future updates.
How does this affect schedule searches?
For example, if you are interested in taking elements of Speech in Summer 2025, students will search for COM 001. If you are interested in taking it Fall 2025, students will search for COMM C1000 as it has an effective date of 2025 Fall.
What will appear on myWestHills and my transcript?
Students will see the old course number and name on their transcripts if taken prior to course's CCN effective date. As of the CCN effective date, students will see the new common course number and name. All common course numbered courses will start with a "C" in the number. For example, ENGL C1000 or COMM C1000.
