West Hills Community College District Embraces New Beginnings

In a significant stride towards rebranding and community involvement, the West Hills Community College District Board of Trustees has voted to adopt new names for two key institutions within its educational network.

West Hills College Coalinga and West Hills College Lemoore have moved forward as Coalinga College and Lemoore College, respectively. This decision marks a milestone in the colleges' ongoing pursuit of evolution and responsiveness to the needs of their student body and community at large.

On January 19, 2024, a public forum during the Board's session provided a platform for insightful dialogue, capturing the community's opinions and expectations regarding the name changes. The diligent process, including a comprehensive brand audit and multiple community engagement methods, culminated in this decision mirrored a commitment to growth and transformation.

Following this transformative decision, Coalinga College and Lemoore College introduced their new identities through innovative marketing campaigns. The thrust of these campaigns is a genuine depiction of their student bodies, highlighting real student success stories that clearly illustrate how each institution fosters its learners' personal and professional goals.

West Hills Community College District Chancellor, Dr. Kristin Clark, expressed her excitement for the new trajectory: "With the adoption of these new names, Coalinga College and Lemoore College are set to unfurl their new brands, invigorated by campaigns that showcase our exceptional student population and how we support their journeys towards success."

Coalinga College and Lemoore College have crafted marketing campaigns that resonate with authenticity and impact as they embrace their new identities.

By featuring real students and their stories, the campaigns aim to illuminate the unique educational pathways, support structures, and opportunities each college offers.

"We're not just unveiling a name change; we're bringing to life the vibrant narratives of our students. Our marketing initiatives will reflect the true spirit of our colleges resourceful, thriving, and entirely student-centric," added Chancellor Clark.

The introduction of Coalinga College and Lemoore College denotes more than a shift in nomenclature; it marks a deep-seated pledge to uphold student ambitions and mirror the vibrancy of the local community. Both institutions shared their new identities after the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges accepted the changes on March 25, 2024.

As part of this strategic rebranding, this edition of West Hills Magazine spotlights the students who are the faces of their respective colleges' campaigns. Their stories represent the essence of the institutional brand refresh and celebrate the individual pathways of success and fulfillment that the West Hills Community College District fosters.
