This year’s Essential Elements will tackle the issue of the changing field of healthcare in the Central Valley, including challenges and changes the field will face in the coming years. This session will take a close look at how California’s health leaders are re-imagining the care-giver workforce for the 21st century. The session seeks to help set the future direction of healthcare workforce training programs, help facilitate public and private partnerships and address the healthcare needs and challenges on the Central Valley.
The session will feature panels, a keynote address and networking opportunities with major players in the field. Panels will focus on rethinking California’s healthcare workforce, looking at how to teach and produce caring healthcare professionals and urgent actions to improve healthcare in the Valley.
This year’s keynote speaker is Sonya Logman, Deputy Secretary, Business and Consumer Relations, California Business, Consumer Services & Housing Agency. Other speakers include Robert David, Director, Office of Statewide Health Planning & Development, Toby Ewing, Executive Director, Mental Health Services Advisory & Oversight Commission and Ben Hilmes, Senior Vice President, Cerner Healthcare.
Healthcare professionals from regional hospitals and clinics will serve as commentators on panels. There will also be a student only panel comprised of students from West Hills College Coalinga and West Hills College Lemoore.
The session will end with the outlining of a concrete to-do list of actions, with a focus on triaging current programs and classes for the 2019-2020 academic year, launching leadership CTE curriculum concurrently for the next decade, and improving a sustainable San Joaquin Valley healthcare delivery system.
The California Endowment joins West Hills as one of the co-sponsors for the event this year and will unveil their recommendations for the future of Health Care Careers in California.
