A Message from Chancellor Dr. Robert Pimentel:
Good afternoon, everyone,
I wanted to provide an update regarding Ms. Edna L. Ivans. Her daughter, India, has shared that Ms. Ivans passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 1:00 PM. Her pastor was with her during her final moments, and the staff at Tulipano lovingly surrounded her throughout the day, ensuring her passing was filled with care and respect.
Ms. Ivans’ loss marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in the history of the West Hills Community College District. Her 48 years of service as Trustee for Area 3 left an indelible mark on our district and the communities of Avenal, Stratford, and Kettleman City.
In recognition of her incredible service, Ms. Ivans was named a Trustee Emeritus on February 18, 2020—the first to receive this distinction in the history of our district. Her tireless efforts have helped shape this institution, and her influence on the educational journeys of thousands of students will be felt for years to come. We are profoundly grateful for her service and the lasting legacy she leaves behind.
As we grieve her passing, we also celebrate her remarkable life, from her dedication to student success to her passion for education as a tool for social mobility. Her influence will continue to be felt through the Edna L. Ivans Hall and the Edna L. and Nick Ivans Endowed Scholarship, ensuring her impact endures for generations.
India has indicated that the family will take their time to plan a service. I will share any updates as they become available.
Thank you for keeping Ms. Ivans’ family in your thoughts during this time of loss. Her memory and contributions to our district will forever remain a part of our story.
Sincerely,
Dr. Robert Pimentel, Chancellor
