West Hills Community College District is proud to announce that both Coalinga College
and Lemoore College have been recognized in The Fresno Bee’s 2026 Best of Central
California People’s Choice Awards, reflecting the strong support and confidence the
community places in the colleges and their students.
Coalinga College earned Silver recognition in the College/University category, while
Lemoore College received Bronze honors in both the College/University and Trade &
Technical School categories. The annual awards are determined through public voting
and celebrate organizations that make a meaningful impact throughout the Central Valley.
“This recognition is especially meaningful because it comes directly from the communities
we serve,” said Dr. Robert Pimentel, chancellor of West Hills Community College District.
“These awards reflect the dedication of our faculty and staff, the achievements of
our students, and the trust that students, families and community partners place in
our colleges every day.”
The recognition highlights the distinct strengths of both institutions while underscoring
a shared commitment to student success.
At Coalinga College, students benefit from a close-knit campus community that emphasizes
belonging, leadership and support. The college's residential campus experience, comprehensive
student services, transfer pathways, and career education programs help students pursue
their educational and professional goals. The college also extends its impact throughout
western Fresno County through the Coalinga College Firebaugh Center and community
partnerships.
“Our campus celebrates culture, leadership and belonging,” said Dr. Carla Tweed, president
of Coalinga College. “This award reflects the incredible students, employees, alumni
and community members who make Coalinga College special. Every day, we strive to create
an environment where students feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to pursue their
goals. We are honored that our community recognizes and values that work.”
Lemoore College was recognized for its role in expanding educational access and workforce
opportunities across Kings County and the surrounding region. The college serves students
through transfer preparation, dual enrollment, adult education, career technical education,
and flexible learning options designed to meet learners where they are and help them
achieve their goals.
“We are honored to be recognized by the communities we proudly serve,” said James
Preston, president of Lemoore College. “Whether students are preparing to transfer
to a university, developing workforce skills, completing a certificate, or taking
their first step into higher education, Lemoore College is committed to helping them
move forward with confidence. This recognition belongs to our students and the dedicated
employees who support them every day.”
Both colleges have earned a reputation for creating opportunities that transform lives,
providing pathways to higher education, career advancement, and economic mobility
for students throughout the Central Valley.
