West Hills Community College District (WHCCD) is thrilled to announce a generous $25,000
gift from California Resources Corporation (NYSE: CRC) to establish the CRC Endowment
STEM Scholarship. This new scholarship fund aims to support full-time students majoring
in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields who maintain a GPA
of 3.0 or higher. The scholarship is available to incoming first-year students and
second-year students district-wide.
The endowment will initially award one $1,000 scholarship each year. As the endowment
grows, additional scholarships will be made available. When the endowment reaches
$50,000, it will fund two scholarships annually and continue to expand, offering more
scholarships as the fund increases.
The official check presentation will occur on July 30, 2024, at 10 a.m. in front of
the Coalinga campus's CRC Mesa Lab & Study Lounge. Students, WHCCD staff, and the
surrounding community are invited to attend.
"We are immensely grateful to CRC for their generous gift," said Alex Perez, Executive
Director of the West Hills Community College Foundation. "This endowment will provide
critical support to our STEM students, helping them to achieve their educational and
career goals."
"This scholarship fund is a testament to CRC’s commitment to education and the future
of our students," said Dr. Kristin Clark, WHCCD Chancellor. "It will aid in our support
of talented students pursuing careers in STEM fields."
"CRC is proud to support the West Hills district in a way that will provide lasting
support to students pursuing STEM fields of study for many years to come," said Omar
Hayat, Executive Vice President, Operations at CRC. "CRC is committed to supporting
education in the Coalinga community as many of these students could become the next
energy leaders and innovators of the future.”
WHCCD invites community members, students, faculty, and staff to come together and
celebrate this significant contribution on July 30, 2024, at 10 a.m. in front of the
Coalinga campus's CRC Mesa Lab & Study Lounge.
The community’s participation will underscore the importance of this fund and the
opportunities it will create for students pursuing STEM education.
