West Hills Community College District Partners with Fresno State to Offer Bachelor's Degree Programs in Criminology and Psychology

West Hills Community College District (WHCCD) announced a groundbreaking partnership with Fresno State University to offer bachelor's degree programs in Criminology/Administration of Justice (AOJ) and Psychology at Coalinga College and Lemoore College.

Launching in fall 2025, these programs are designed to provide local students with greater access to four-year degrees through the innovative "Convivir" initiative, funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Title V grant.

"This partnership marks a significant step forward for our district and the communities we serve," said WHCCD Chancellor Dr. Robert Pimentel. "It exemplifies our commitment to expanding educational opportunities, particularly for Hispanic, first-generation, and low-income students, who will now have the chance to earn a bachelor's degree close to home."

The collaboration with Fresno State will establish satellite centers on Coalinga College and Lemoore College campuses, where students can take hybrid courses. The initiative also includes dedicated support services, high-touch advising, and professional development for faculty to better assist students in overcoming barriers like Imposter Syndrome.

Dr. Carla Tweed, President of Coalinga College, expressed her enthusiasm for the new programs, saying, "This partnership provides our students with a seamless pathway to a bachelor's degree, removing the challenges of distance and cost. We are thrilled to be part of this transformational opportunity for our students and community."

Lemoore College President James Preston added, "The new bachelor's programs in Criminology and Psychology are tailored to meet the needs of our students and the region. By offering these degrees right here in Lemoore, we make it easier for students to achieve their educational goals and pursue rewarding careers."

The project's first year will focus on planning and logistics, with a launch in fall 2025. The programs are expected to significantly increase the number of associate degree holders transferring to four-year programs and the completion rates for both degrees.
