The West Hills Community College District Board of Trustees honored Trustee Nina Oxborrow during
its June 23 meeting as she concluded nearly 29 years of service to the District and
its students.Oxborrow joined the Board of Trustees in November 1997 and most recently served as
Clerk of the Board. Throughout her tenure, she helped guide the District through decades
of growth while remaining focused on expanding educational opportunities for students
and communities throughout the region.
“The value of our community college is evident when speaking with our students and
citizens,” Oxborrow said. “By reaching out and continually providing educational opportunities
for the people in our communities, we all benefit.”
West Hills Community College District Chancellor Dr. Robert Pimentel thanked Oxborrow
for her dedication and leadership.
“For nearly three decades, Trustee Oxborrow has been a tireless advocate for students
and educational access,” Pimentel said. “Her commitment to our communities and belief
in the mission of community colleges have left a lasting impact on the District and
the students we serve.”
Former Chancellor Dr. Frank Gornick, who worked alongside Oxborrow during his 23 years
with the District, praised her unwavering commitment to students and the community.
“Nina always led with her heart and with the best interests of students in mind,”
Gornick said. “She understood the importance of community colleges and never lost
sight of the opportunities they create for individuals, families and communities.”
Following Oxborrow’s departure, Ken Stoppenbrink was sworn in as the newest member
of the West Hills Community College District Board of Trustees.
Stoppenbrink previously served the District for 22 years, including as human resources
director, Vice Chancellor of Business Services and Deputy Chancellor. During his tenure,
he helped guide the District through significant growth, financial challenges and
numerous bond measures supporting campus improvements and student success.The Board expressed its appreciation to Oxborrow for her years of dedicated service
and welcomed Stoppenbrink as he begins his service representing Trustee Area 1.
