Lemoore College is excited to announce that it will host a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) drill on July 29 at 9:30 AM on the Lemoore College campus as part of its Jump Start Internship Program, a four-week, project-based internship program for high school juniors.
Jump Start, which occurs annually in July, involves local high school students who apply to participate in various pathways focused on in-demand careers in the region. This year, a collaboration between Health Careers and First Responder Path students will apply hands-on learning in a simulated mass casualty scenario. The entire experience will be facilitated by local expert first responders, health care professionals, and faculty who will focus on how students apply theoretical and practical knowledge in the field.
Participants in the Health Careers and First Responder pathways receive:
• EMR & CPR Industry Certification
• College Credit
• $1000 Scholarship for Completion
• Industry-standard attire
"It is crucial for students who have an interest in health careers and first responder pathways to practice responding in emergencies just as the professionals do," said Dr. Grant Ermis, Dean of Career and Technical Education at Lemoore College. "MCI drills like this help develop students with a practical understanding of handling real-life emergencies. Our ultimate goal is to provide these high school students with a realistic understanding of the health careers and first responder pathways so they can see their potential future impact in society."
Emergency vehicles and personnel from area public safety and emergency medical service agencies will be on campus on July 29 to participate in the MCI drill. The community and students should not be alarmed by the increased presence of emergency vehicles, as this is part of the scheduled drill.
