Transfer Studies – Full IGETC Certification: UC, Certificate of Achievement

The lntersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) Full Certification for California State University (UC) provides students the ability to fulfill in-state, public university lower-division general education requirements before transferring. It is strongly recommended that UC-bound students complete the IGETC prior to transfer to allow more flexibility in class selection at the university and timely progress to degree completion. All UC campuses will accept the completed IGETC to satisfy all lower-division general education requirements, however, individual colleges or majors within a UC campus may not accept IGETC for meeting general education.

Although the certificate recognizes the completion of lower-division general education requirements, it does not guarantee admission to a specific campus within the UC system, nor does it guarantee admission to a specific major. Some majors and colleges may require a different lower division preparation and/or a higher GPA than is necessary for this certificate. Students can use to review major preparation courses and are advised to see a counselor for educational planning for successful admission to the university of their choice.

  • A minimum “C” grade is required in each college course for IGETC where a “C” is defined as a minimum 2.0 grade points on a 4.0 scale. 
  • A single course, even though listed in more than one area, can only be used to satisfy one General Education requirement.
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) scores may not be used for AREA 1A. 
  • Advanced Placement (AP) and IB scores may not be used in Areas 1B & 1C.

Program student learning outcomes:

  1. Students will demonstrate critical thinking through literary works and written compositions.
  2. Students will utilize quantitative analysis and have the ability to use and criticize quantitative arguments.
  3. Students will analyze works of philosophical, historical, literary, aesthetic and cultural importance.
  4. Students will examine social and behavioral perspectives in their contemporary, historical, and geographical settings.
  5. Students will comprehend physical and biological concepts, their limitations, and the power of scientific inquiry.
  6. Students will demonstrate proficiency in a language other than English.
